The Turkish boss in Crotone feared ending up in the sights of a sniper a few days before the attack and after the ambush he ordered his men to find powerful weapons in his defense

CROTONE – He knew they would try to kill him. Last March 2, Baris Boyun, the alleged leader of a terrorist organization dismantled by the Milan DDA, said that someone knew that he was under house arrest and that they are looking for a “sniper”. In fact, on the following 18 March unknown persons fired four gun shots at his home in the central Via Vittorio Veneto, at number 169. According to what his wife, Ogze Buyukkaplan, told the Crotone Flying Squad, which was investigating the attempted murder, a there would be a power outage at some point. Going down the stairs to reactivate it, she noticed two men, with their faces covered, who chased her until she was dragged into the apartment by her husband. The attackers began firing at the apartment door, attempting to kick it in, only to give up when the woman went out onto the balcony to seek help.

THE TURKISH BOSS IN CROTONE FEARED OF BEING IN THE SIGHTS OF A SNIPER

The reaction, as emerges from the interceptions captured through the electronic bracelet, was not to contact the police but to ask his associates to recover the most powerful weapons in his defense. In an intercepted conversation, the Turk tells his interlocutor that he will send a Kalashnikov, two bulletproof vests and two pistols. But the group would be equipped with explosives because Boyun refers to a shootout that occurred in Turkey between his “boys” and the Turkish police. “In the end the boys threw a hand grenade for fear that the police would arrive.” From the intercepted passages it would emerge not only the large supply of weapons in Italy and Europe but also in Turkey, where the group wanted to “raze to the ground”, on the orders of the leader, an aluminum factory.

These are firearms, both ordinary and war (as they are characterized by the ability to fire in automatic mode, such as kalàšnikof and uzi) but also explosives. Weapons that would be imported into Italy and other European countries, transported and sold to other criminal organizations, but above all used by the group for intimidating actions, murders (even on commission) and for actual attacks. Weapons that also served for Boyun’s protection.

HE ALWAYS TRAVELED WITH AN ARMED ESCORT

The armed escort left Crotone when the Turkish boss who ended up on the Interpol red list moved. The investigation which last night led to a raid in Italy and Europe was triggered precisely following the arrest of his associates for weapons which took place last October: Tolga Guetelpe, Fikri Faith Cancin and Kerem Akarsu, caught at the crossing of Chiasso with two pistols with attached magazines and a bulletproof vest. They were traveling aboard a Honda “Hybrid” on which Boyun’s partner’s Turkish identity card and residence permit in Montenegro were found. On the Honda there was also a folder of documents concerning the boss. In the seized computer media, the police found photographs portraying him with a leader’s attitude, for example behind the desk of a sumptuous private study, but they also found videos of men with heavy weapons and propaganda material of various kinds.

The Honda preceded the armored Mercedes “G” class in which Boyun was traveling with the woman. Even a year earlier, at the time of his arrest in Rimini in execution of a warrant issued by the Istanbul Court (for murder, weapons and criminal conspiracy), Boyun was traveling with an escort of three men, in that case coming from Switzerland, where another cell of the organization operates. Last January investigators arrested him in Milan for a gun hidden in a false bottom of the car. Lots of weapons to hit. But also to defend oneself.
