Virtus Cagliari beats Pontevico at home

Virtus Cagliari prevailed in the first leg of the semi-final for promotion to the women’s Serie A/2. Pontevico Basket beat Pontevico Basket with a score of 46-38 at the PalaVirtus in via Pessagno. A superior Virtus in the first two quarters, with the Lombard team suffering greatly from the pressure, play and baskets of the hosts. After the break, with the Cagliaritan team always having the reins of the match in their hands, Pontevico came out, putting the Virtussines in difficulty. However, the conditions of Carla Lucchini, who came out in the first 20′ due to a shoulder problem, need to be assessed and checked better in the next few days.

The race. It’s a Virtus with a turbo that we saw in the first two quarters. Running, determination and above all shooting precision allow the girls coached by Fabrizio Staico to close the first half at 16-9. In the second period Virtus remains focused and runs away (21-9). At the long break, Virtus thus finished in the lead at 30-17 with Carla Lucchini who, however, was forced to leave the field. The start of the third period is not the best for the girls coached by coach Fabrizio Staico; the Lombard team takes advantage of some defensive uncertainty from the hosts and moves to -4 (30-26). 4′ into the quarter, Lussu finds the first basket of the period which paves the way for a Virtus reaction also signed by Corda, up to +12 in the 30′ (39-27). In the last 10′ the tiredness comes out. Pontevico appears more on the ball even if he still seems to be wet in attack. He gets closer (39-33 in the 33rd minute and 41-35 in the 37th minute), but in the final it is still Lussu who brings Virtus back to +11 (46-35). Gap reduced to +8 in the last minute after a 3-pointer sent to target by Racchetti. The return match in a week, in Pontevico, with the Cagliaritan team starting from +8 from the first leg.
