In Montecatone the course that teaches patients to fly drones

Flying a drone for passion or to embark on a new professional path: these are the two main opportunities offered by the course held at the Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute created with Seneca, a professional training body characterized by its commitment to social innovation projects and the collaboration of Hito, a a reality born from the fusion of the professionalism acquired in the aeronautical and neuroscience fields.

“The proposal to carry it out – underlines Roberta Vannini, coordinator of Occupational Therapy at the MRI – came from some former patients: the activity has no contraindications for people in wheelchairs, as long as they are familiar with the use of a PC. Covid has had stopped; therefore, when Seneca came to propose to us to create a training module of this type, we were interested. And the response arrived: about fifteen members, of which ten have acquired the first level license, which allows them to flying drones in urban areas”. Enrico Lo Certo, a patient who followed the course and acquired his license, explains that he “signed up out of curiosity – but the course also offers the basis for those who want to dedicate themselves to drones also on a professional basis”. “The challenge – underlines the president of the Montecatone Onlus Foundation Marco Gasparri – is to offer hospitalized people opportunities in which to experience how much life there is even after a significant disability”.
