The recovery, in September, of Drusilla Foer and the special project with Glauco Mauri create an ideal bridge between the two seasons, straddling the year of Pesaro, Italian capital of culture, of the Rossini theatre. A programming crossroads and engine for the entire national panorama of live entertainment. Presented, as always, on the occasion of the last scheduled show, in September a journey not without emotions begins again with 9 subscription shows and 2 special projects, for a total of 41 events.

The departure

The season opens from 10 to 13 October with “Mephisto. Novel of a career”, from the most famous book by Klaus Mann (son of Thomas), directed by Andrea Baracco: a disturbing and true story that passes through our contemporaneity. Grease, the flagship of the Compagnia della Rancia, will start again from Pesaro (7-10 November), directed by Saverio Marconi, on the wave of a success that lit up Italian audiences and kicked off musical mania. Emma Dante returns to the Pesaro stage with the show that concludes the trilogy of the fairy tales of Lo cunto de li cunti by Basile: 16 actors on stage for Re Chicchinella, from 19 to 22 December. “Ti sposo ma non tanto” with Vanessa Incontrada and Gabriele Pignotta, who also directs, from 9 to 12 January skilfully mixes the lightness of comedy with a romantic mood. A welcome return also for a director like Peter Stein who tackles three of Chekhov’s “scenic jokes” (The Bear, The Damages of Tobacco, The Marriage Question) brought together under the title Nervous Crisis with a super cast of actors led by Maddalena Crippa ( January 30-February 2).

Long Journey into the Night arrives on stage from 20 to 23 February with Gabriele Lavia, who also directs, and Federica Di Martino. The text, after the death of Eugene O’Neill, won the Pulitzer Prize for dramaturgy in 1957 and is considered the masterpiece of the American playwright. A comedy between illusion and reality is the new theatrical challenge by Ferzan Ozpetek who, after Loose Cannons, chooses to bring Magnifica Presence to the stage (6-9 March) with a cast still being defined. We play and laugh with music and songs thanks to Elio, protagonist of “When a musician laughs” (20-23 March), directed by Giorgio Gallione, in a crossing of the texts of Fo, Gaber, Jannacci, Cochi and Renato, up to Flaiano and Marchesi.

The grand finale

The conclusion of the season from 3 to 6 April is with Casanova, a new work by the Pesaro director Fabio Condemi, Ubu Award 2021 for best director, with a work taken from the autobiographical memories of the Venetian thinker and philosopher Giacomo Casanova. The first of the two special projects concerns Glauco Mauri who will bring to the stage (at the Annunziata from 19 to 22 September) the wonderful “De profundis” by Oscar Wilde, a universal parable of suffering, the value of art and love; the second will see Alessandro Baricco go on stage together with three musicians (Cesare Picco, Nicola Tescari, Roberto Tarasco) to read and “play” 7 chapters of his latest book, Abel, defined by the author himself as a metaphysical western.
