NERETO. He allegedly shot provincial councilor Luciano Giansante in the center of Nereto just to scare him, convinced that the politician was among the people who had persecuted and mocked him for years. This is what emerged from the interrogation of 56-year-old Alberto Garzarelli, arrested on May 22nd, before the judge for preliminary investigations in the Teramo prison.

The man must answer to the charge of attempted murder because that blow, which fortunately only grazed Giansante’s left thigh causing bruises, could have caused much more serious consequences.

From what we learn, the 56-year-old must also answer for resisting a public official because, according to the investigators, immediately after the shots in Piazza Marconi he threw a petrol can at the police and then barricaded himself in the house; and also injuries and illegal possession of a weapon. That there were old disagreements between the two, neighbors for a long time, can be read on Garzarelli’s Facebook page which recounts some episodes.

A situation which before last Wednesday’s events had already produced complaints and reports, including from Garzarelli himself, as he himself writes on social media. The 56-year-old made posts on social media even while he was barricaded in his home.

His lawyer, Luca Macci, asked for the precautionary measure of arrest in prison to be replaced with house arrest.
