“Il Maggio dei Libri 2024”, the book “U Tempo e Ciciulia” by Gemma Calabrò presented in Corigliano-Rossano

The presentation of the book, a moment of celebration of local culture and the union between communities

Corigliano Rossano, Saturday 25 May 2024 – In the frame of the event “Il Maggio dei Libri 2024”, at the Women’s Laboratory of the Mondiversi Ets Association, the presentation of the book “U Tempo e Ciciulia” by Gemma Calabrò took place. The work, published by Informazione & Comunicazione, was able to unite the former cities of Corigliano and Rossano, now part of the single municipality of Corigliano-Rossano, through stories and dialect, fundamental elements of local culture. The author’s book is a journey into the past and present of popular traditions, made even more special by the translation of a Rossano composition into the Corigliano dialect. This choice offered the public a moment of authentic cultural exchange and inclusion, strengthening the bond between the two communities. The event, coordinated by the editor Erminia Madeo, saw the participation of Angela Campana and Marisa Lucisano, who interpreted songs in Rossano dialect, while Mario Amica gave voice to the texts in Coriglianese dialect, all accompanied by the popular music of the duo Sweet Dreams. The evening was an opportunity to reflect on the value of dialect as a vehicle of identity and history. Gemma Calabrò, visibly excited, underlined the importance of approaching reading with openness and curiosity. You expressed great pride in seeing your Rossano poetry translated into the Corigliano dialect, a tangible sign of respect and valorization of the different linguistic identities that coexist in the unique city of Corigliano-Rossano.
