“I have been living with a serious pathology for years, but I have learned a further lesson from it: in a life journey that is long-term or short-term for everyone, the important thing is to give it meaning and live one’s existence to the full” , he said when speaking about his illness and consistent with his idea of communication, a fundamental aspect in the relationship between doctor and patient.
“The mission of care brings us into contact every day with many people at their worst moment”, one of his thoughts collected by The Corriere della Sera. “They are not going to buy a car, but to get treatment. Communication, towards those who are ill or a family member, is fundamental: even a word of comfort can turn another person’s day around.”
He cared about young people, whom he invited to “throw themselves in and dare, face their fears by overcoming their limits”. For those who wanted to undertake their own profession, he recommended volunteering in the ambulance. “Unique opportunity to acquire healthcare skills, help others and make new friends”, he explained, recalling his personal experience.
