Giorgia Meloni expected in Palermo on Monday

In Palermo, on Monday 27 May, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and Renato Schifani, will sign the agreement for development and cohesion between the Government and the Sicily Region. The agreement provides for investments financed by the Development and Cohesion Fund for 5.5 billion euros, “for numerous areas of intervention that are fundamental for the quality of services for citizens and businesses”, explains Palazzo Chigi in a note. The appointment is set for 4pm at the Teatro Massimo.

The group leader of the M5s at Ars Antonio De Luca and the president of the EU commission of Palazzo dei Normanni Luigi Sunseri are going down hard. “On Monday, it seems, Prime Minister Meloni will come to Palermo to sign the program agreement for FSC funds. This timing, a few weeks before the European vote, after months and months of waiting, has a lot of the feel of an electoral campaign, but the Meloni perhaps doesn’t know that the Sicilians don’t have a nose ring and won’t exchange what we rightfully deserve for a magnanimous concession. These funds, moreover, have been extensively plundered by the Meloni government which, with the complicity of Schifani, has stolen from them. Sicily as much as 2.1 billion to be allocated to a bridge that will never be built and to two dangerous incinerators, all to the detriment of roads, motorways and all other crumbling Sicilian infrastructure.”

“Among other things – continue the two parliamentarians – before signing, the list of works of the FSC program should have been examined by the ARS, as per the commitment made by President Galvagno, but instead nothing, once again the Sicilian Parliament it has evidently been bypassed for Schifani and Meloni, parliament and the will of the Sicilians count for less than nothing, except then asking them for votes to keep them in their comfortable seats.
