Success for the Komen Italia Prevention Caravan in Basilicata

Over 300 free services offered in four prevention days

The Komen Italia Prevention Caravan was a great success in the Basilicata stage in May, with over 300 free services in Matera, Policoro, Val D’Agri and Paterno. The initiative, organized by the Basilicata Committee, involved numerous health institutions and volunteer professionals, highlighting the importance of prevention for women’s health.

The Komen Italia Prevention Caravan, organized by the Basilicata Committee, obtained a great response during the Lucanian stage in May, offering four days of free prevention for women. The initiative took place in Matera, Policoro, Val D’Agri and Paterno, and saw the participation of numerous women who took advantage of over 300 services, including mammograms, breast and gynecological visits, nutritional and physiotherapy consultations.

The event underlined the importance of early diagnosis in the treatment of breast cancer, a disease that affects 56 thousand women in Italy every year. Thanks to early diagnosis and improvements in therapeutic pathways, supported by scientific research, many of these women manage to recover. The Komen Italia Prevention Caravan contributes significantly to these efforts by offering thousands of free diagnostic services every year.

The prevention days were carried out thanks to the collaboration between the Basilicata Committee of Komen Italia, the local administrations, the health institutions of the Basilicata area and various private individuals. The main collaborators include the San Carlo Hospital in Potenza, the healthcare company of Potenza and Matera, the Madonna delle Grazie Hospital in Matera and the IRCCS CROB in Rionero.

Numerous doctors and health professionals offered their voluntary contribution during the four days, including Dr. Giusi Di Nardo, Dr. Silvio Nicoletti, Dr. Carmen Putino and many others. The municipal administrations of Matera and Policoro sponsored the initiative, while the Municipality of Paterno actively contributed to its creation.

The Basilicata Committee of Komen Italia is already working on organizing the 2024 edition of the Race for the Cure, which will be held in Matera from 27 to 29 September. Future activities and initiatives will be communicated via the committee’s social channels.
