Alliance for Victory” Raises Doubts on the Perugia Metrobus Project: Review and Involvement Needed

The “Alliance for Victory” coalition of Perugia raises concerns and requests for revision regarding the Metrobus project, underlining the need for transparency and citizen involvement. In an official note, the coalition expresses doubts about the decisions taken so far by the municipal administration regarding this ambitious public transport plan.

According to the Alliance, the decision to proceed with the Metrobus project was taken hastily, without adequate participation of citizens living in the neighborhoods affected and without an overall vision of urban mobility. Financed through resources from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the project was perceived as an isolated intervention, not integrated into a broader plan to reorganize the city’s public transport.

The coalition underlines the need for in-depth reflection on the project, actively involving citizens and opening a dialogue with the government to suggest improvements. It is proposed to organize a large participatory initiative to review the project according to the needs of the community. Furthermore, it criticizes the communication approach of the project, highlighting the lack of transparency and the predominance of a marketing showcase through the Metrobusperugia.it website, rather than clear and detailed communication on the real implications of the Metrobus.

The Alliance expresses concerns about several aspects of the project, including the environmental impact of the planned works and the lack of preferential lanes which could compromise the efficiency of the system. He also criticizes the excessive dimensions of the vehicles chosen for the service, which could cause inconvenience to users and not encourage the use of public transport.

Finally, the coalition underlines the need to rethink the entire public transport system of Perugia, promoting an intermodal approach and encouraging the use of public transport by citizens. Only through a complete review and greater community participation, the Alliance claims, will it be possible to improve the quality of life and reduce the environmental impact of travel in the city.
