It is a very coveted and lucky race that takes place tomorrow Saturday at the Cirigliano racecourse in Aversa. In fact, the 51st edition of the “Nunzio and Gaetano Stabile” (founders of the Terra di Lavoro trotter) is taking place, the first Grand prize won by His Majesty Varenne.
That afternoon at the end of May 1988, Enzo Giordano’s standard bearer, making his debut in the very first category, defeated his opponents by starting the long suite of 62 victories in 73 races held all over the world. Varenne is currently 29 years old and in his retirement in the province of Parma he continues to generate champions.
By now the stud-book of the Italian trot is full of Varenne’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also on this beautiful Saturday at Cirigliano among the eleven participants in the “Stabile” only in the male line there are a son of Varenne (Finamente Par), two nephews (Fandango Luis and Fascino Luis) born to Napoleon Bar, son of Varenne, and a great-grandson, Foley W Fior, born to Zacon Giò who was Varenne’s nephew. The favorite of the race is Frankie Lj which will be driven by Giampaolo Minnucci, the driver from Varenne, against Floy di Girafalco (in sulky Genny Riccio) and Fortunadrago Font (in sulky Enrico Bellei). The races start at 2.50pm, the Grand Prix is scheduled for 4.40pm (live on Sky 220 and digital terrestrial channel 151).
