Ancona, Italico Conti shines again: Olympic platforms for the national Gimbo – News Ancona-Osimo – CentroPagina

ANCONA – The restyling of the Italico Conti, a city facility dedicated to outdoor athletics located in Palombare, next to the PalaCasali, is completed: Gianmarco Tamberi, the reigning Olympic, World and European champion jumper from Ancona, who will also be the standard-bearer, can rejoice of Italy at the next Paris Olympics. The countdown to the Olympic Games, in fact, has begun, and finally being able to have a platform to train up to the champion’s goals for the national Gimbo is a very important aspect. It was Tamberi himself, in fact, who over a year ago had denounced the precarious conditions of Conti’s platforms. The Municipality took action, thus completing the work of reorganizing the field, completing the last part of the redevelopment of the facility. “The work of strengthening and modernizing sports infrastructures by the sports facilities department continues”, reads the note from the Municipality.

The restyling works at the Conti were divided into two parts: the first, worth 250 thousand eurosfinanced with a loan from the Sports Credit Institute, and completed last October, consisted of the regeneration of the pavement of the ring of the eight-lane track with the retopping technique, i.e. the installation of the new pavement with a thickness of approximately 3 millimeters, without removing the pre-existing worn surface and thus maintaining the elasticity and absorption characteristics of the old flooring unaltered.

The second intervention, however, involved the platforms for the disciplines of high jump, long jump, javelin throw, hammer throw and shot put. Upon the recommendation of Gianmarco Tamberi, instead of the retopping intervention, in this case a variant was carried out to create a completely new platform with a prefabricated surface with characteristics similar to those of the Paris facility where the next Olympics will be held. The cost of this second intervention was 150 thousand euros. The Italico Conti is an important point of reference at a national level as it is one of the few structures equipped with eight lanes and at the same time a covered grandstand for spectators with a capacity of approximately one thousand seats. The management of the facility is in the hands of Fidal and the proximity to the PalaCasali, temple of indoor athletics, constitutes auniqueness at a national level which allows us to host high-level sporting events in every season of the year. For Tamberi, finally the right platform to complete his preparation for the five-circle event.
