Lamezia Terme – With the lectio “God spoke to you in the midst of the fire. Word, history, creation” by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, the meetings of the second year of the Biblical School and the first year of the School for ministries will conclude on May 26th. President emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Culture and President of the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology, Cardinal Ravasi has a vast literary production which amounts to around one hundred and fifty volumes, mainly concerning biblical and scientific topics, works particularly loved by readers for their ability to interpret the texts sacred, for clarity and literary and poetic finesse. These include edited and annotated editions of the Psalms, the Book of Job, the Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes. He edited the new multi-volume edition of the «Famiglia Cristiana» Bible. Even better known to the general public are the books: “Breve storia dell’anima” (2003); “Return to virtues” (2005); “The Doors of Sin” (2007); “The words and the days. New lay breviary” (2008); “500 curiosities of faith” (2009); “Questions of faith” (2010). He regularly collaborates with newspapers and radio and television publications: for many years he has hosted the Sunday column Frontiere dello Spirito on a national network, he writes in “L’Osservatore Romano” and other newspapers, and for fifteen years he has had the column in “Avvenire” The Matins.

Assuming the presidency of the three curial bodies [divenuti due nel novembre 2012, quando la Commissioni per i Beni Culturali della Chiesa è stata assorbita dal Pontificio Consiglio della Cultura], brought a significant turning point to the dicastery created by John Paul II for dialogue with cultures and the world of non-belief, and to the two commissions that deal with ecclesial cultural heritage and sacred archaeology. In the Pontifical Council for Culture, in particular, it has given priority to some thematic sectors, strategically organizing the work in “departments” that deal with the relationship between science and faith (the so-called Stoq project), the link between art and faith, dialogue with the world of atheism and non-belief (the “Courtyard of the Gentiles”), of communication and language, of dialogue with emerging cultures.

Created and proclaimed Cardinal by Benedict XVI in the Consistory of 20 November 2010, of the Title of San Giorgio in Velabro, Elevated Diaconia pro hac vice a Presbyterial title (3 May 2021). He is a member of the Dicasteries: for Culture and Education; for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life; for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments; for Interreligious Dialogue; for Evangelization. After the Lectio, which will be hosted in the auditorium of the San Benedetto inter-parish complex starting at 5.30pm, Cardinal Ravasi will preside over the Holy Mass in the church of San Benedetto starting at 7pm.
