The artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the most important Italian and international artists, will be present on Thursday 23 May, at 2.30 pm, at the ISIA Roma Design/Pordenone headquarters for a dialogue on the theme of new knowledge between sustainability, art and planning.

Michelangelo Pistoletto created works with any medium: mirrors, paintings, objects, spaces, rags, parks, photographs, passing through the incredible Italian adventure of Arte Povera, a truly international Italian artistic movement. He produced the very famous mirror paintings and the iconic work, a true symbol of social sustainability, The Venus of Rags. In these works art is ethically committed to the center of responsible social and political transformation; a way of thinking that Michelangelo Pistoletto has been promoting and supporting for more than twenty years with the Cittadellarte Foundation, in Biella, Piedmont.

Michelangelo Pistoletto is the history of art and thought of the second half of the twentieth century and even today in the twenties of the twenty-first century, faced with the technoscientific paradigm, globalization, the internet, artificial intelligence, he is increasingly active, both within and within that outside the traditional exhibition spaces and official relationships with galleries, between collaborative posters and works at the Venice Biennale, at the Louvre, at the MOMA, between exhibitions in Rome, Berlin and Paris, passing through the Arab countries and the new worlds of Africa, of South America, and of the United States of America itself.

In 2023 he published The formula of creation a book that is a true summation of his thoughts, and which sets the ambitious goal of inspiring the genesis of a new society. The master tells in 31 steps the human and artistic journey that led him to hypothesize the artistic drive as the origin of the human phenomenon, deriving from it the myths and cultures of society, therefore religion, politics, science. Thanks to the germinal ferment of art he proposes a new social sustainability, an awareness and responsibility towards others, therefore towards the nature of which we are part and towards the world that we constantly create. It is a call to use the Formula of Creation to become co-authors of a new society.

In this meeting Michelangelo Pistoletto dialogues with professor Francesco Monico, with whom he shared the experience of building the Unidee Academy of Fine Arts inspired by his own work and with whom he collaborates directly to this day on the themes of the new, but specific to all his work, research on spirituality. Francesco Monico is therefore a professor at ISIA Rome and Pordenone, where he teaches Sociology of Change and Theory of Multimedia Languages respectively, developing work on the imagination and how technology influences the perception and construction of the world. Acting as the third voice will be the Director of ISIA Roma Design (Rome branch and Pordenone branch) prof. Tommaso Salvatori, designer and strategy director, who brings the experience of systemic design, the true hallmark of ISIA.

It will be a dialogue focused on the need to improve the sustainability of the world, on how to do so in an increasingly new world, attention to new knowledge and training paths is essential. A great master, whose work is a precious indication on how to act, deals with speculative design in an important design school, within the design field of systemic design or complexity.

ISIA Rome/Pordenone, Higher Institute of Artistic Industries, was born from the planning of the art historian Giulio Carlo Argan in 1974, when he took up the original definition of Design as planning through art (H. Cole, London Universal Exhibition , 1851) promoted an update of the traditional fine arts academies into an innovative model of high school for creativity and planning. From this perspective, the institute incorporates the issues and needs of an increasingly new world and reflects on the new knowledge and new challenges of the contemporary world. All this by intercepting the current events of Michelangelo Pistoletto, a great master of contemporary art, adopting his visions to create a new imagination.

The care of new knowledge. The formula of creation: mirror, sign art, hominitheism, trinamics, third paradise, formation.

Michelangelo Pistoletto with Francesco Monico and Tommaso Salvatori discuss training between art and design.

Thursday 23 May at 2.30pm Room S1. University Consortium, Via Prasecco 3/A, Pordenone.
