Campobasso-Carpi, championship win: the divisive use of inclusive symbols

In a match for the Poule Scudetto, where the value of the dispute is more than symbolic given the promotions to Serie C already achieved, the controversy linked to a banner of the Serie C catalyzes all the attention. Curva Nord Michele Scorrano. The banner, specifically, is bounced at the entrance controls, without a valid reason other than sinister censorship, which obviously meets with dissent from the fans who, in response, will display their traditional banners upside down. On the sidelines of the match, the banner will then be opened outside the stadium, accompanied by torches to vindicate one’s sacrosanct right to dissent, specifically against those who – i.e. one of the many candidates in the upcoming elections – have used the image of the choreography against Termoli for their own private and partisan interests, in stark contrast to the interclass and inclusive nature that that image represents.

Returning to the news, there are around 2,500 people present for this Serie D championship match in which, apart from the high-sounding title, the stimuli and competitive tension are clearly not those of the championship, so a good part of the regulars of the great matches of the regular season they did not see each other on this occasion.

Despite the aforementioned episodes in the immediate pre-match, the support of the Campobassani ultras for their team is not lacking, net of the much anger which in the first half, between one chant and another, leads to a few more moments of pause which is widely justifiable.

Two other banners can be seen displayed: the first celebrates the salvation of Fasano in the fourth series, while the second to celebrate the victory of Campobasso in this championship bears the signature of the Loosen up Fasano, present with a large delegation to strengthen this strong partnership with the home rossoblu fans.

To warm up the atmosphere you need the classic “Cam-po-bas-so” broken, which always finds the support of a large group of fans of this choir. The strike in the final part of the first half was positive. The second half, however, features other chants for the team, for friends who have been warned, but also choruses in dialect and tributes to Fasano’s friends.

At the final whistle, the Campobasso team officially receives the cup for the victory in group F of Serie D, with which they celebrate right under the popular sector, greeted by various ironic chants between ultras and members of the club’s staff who tone it down with a smile this not entirely happy Sunday.

The presence of around twenty Carpi ultras should be noted, a real drudgery for them, considering the over 600 km that separate the Molise capital from the Emilian city. Last day of school mode for the red and white ultras, a relaxed approach for them too, largely justifiable, but they still manage on various occasions to make themselves heard with dry chants and various clapping.

In the second half, after leaving them with a beer and a chat in honor of my origins, I see them at the same standards as the first forty-five minutes. Gathered behind the drapes of Led by Lambrusco and QZD, seem equally active even if inevitably I will hear them less. At the final whistle they were rewarded by the launch of numerous shirts by their team, which officially ended the season with a 2-0 defeat; Campobasso’s path continues instead and with these three points in their mini-group, they qualify for the semi-final in a double match, 1 and 6 June, against Cavese, a match to be followed, bans permitting by virtue of the old existing rivalry. No problems whatsoever among the fans of Campobasso and Carpi today, at the first ever meeting between them.
