The journey was long but in the end the heart reached the obstacle: The Monteverdi Festival in Cremona is, by law, a festival “of absolute international prestige”.

The awaited news at the end of the 12.30 pm vote in the “Registered Office” session of the VII Commission (Culture, Science and Education). After the positive opinion of the I Constitutional Affairs and V Budget and Treasury Commissions, the long-awaited “Amendments to article 2 of law 20 December 2012, n. 238, for the creation of the Monteverdi Festival in Cremona” were reached.

The change consists precisely in the inclusion of the Monteverdi Festival in the list of festivals of national importance. The bipartisan text, first signed by the senator Simona Malpezzi (Pd) is also signed by Renato Ancorotti (Fdi) and by the senators of the Lega Roberto Marti And Andrea Paganella.A great teamwork, a true example of good politics, transversal to party flags for the good of culture and Cremona” commented the Superintendent of the Ponchielli Theater Andrea Cigni at the presentation of the 2024 edition of the Monteverdi Festival.

The recognition of the Monteverdi Festival is a source of great pride for the whole city. It is the result of the work of these years that has brought the Ponchielli theater to the highest national levels and beyond. After years of talking about it, today recognition is state law. Thanks to this law, the Ponchielli theater will enjoy extraordinary funding of 1 million euros for three years, for a total of 3 million euros (effectively like three capitals of culture). Thanks to all the political forces who seized this opportunity and who accompanied the work of this administration on such an important match.” commented the Cremona Culture Councilor with emotion Luca Burgazzi.
