Gender equality: Gesenu receives certification for company policies

PERUGIA – Among the first companies in the sector in Umbria to obtain certification pursuant to UNI/PdR 125:2022 on Gender Equality, Gesenu is a forerunner of the thought that the protagonism of ideas and the presence of women will be decisive in giving a defined profile the positive actions to be taken to achieve truly effective results in the company environment.

It was discussed on Thursday morning at a conference that took place in the “Galeazzo Alessi” Service Center together with Caterina Grechi President of the Umbria Region Equal Opportunities Centre, Rosita Garzi Regional Equality Councilor of Umbria, Michela Sciurpa Administrator of Sviluppumbria, Luciano Piacenti Managing Director of Gesenu, Delia Adriani Board Member, Chiara Consalvi Head of General Affairs Area, Elisa Terrosi Head of Environmental Audit & Compliance, Letizia D’Ingecco Head of QASE System, Annalisa Maccarelli Head of Tari Office and Federico Sisti General Secretary of the Umbria Chamber of Commerce.
The culture of work is now the heritage of women not only for a spirit of affirmation but, also and above all, for contingent needs. National and community laws have established equality between the sexes but gender statistics continue to show substantial disparity, especially in Italy. In fact, if talking about equality is simple, it is another thing to achieve it and “difficult” to integrate it into the organization of work.

Along this path, Gesenu has gained awareness that the protection of human dignity at work must remain an inviolable principle, which a civil and democratic society must give concrete implementation to. For this reason, the company, through the implementation of a Management System for Gender Equality compliant with UNI/PdR 125:2022, has undertaken a path already mapped out within its organization in order to achieve fairer gender equality.
Starting from the certainty that the wider participation of women and men in work is possible only in the presence of a more flexible work organisation, in which paid work can be compatible with unpaid care work, Gesenu intends, with the dictates understood in PdR 125:

  • apply human resources management and development practices that promote an inclusive culture of access to company roles and growth in the professional path, guaranteeing equal opportunities for all staff and encouraging the strengthening of the female gender;
  • communicate transparently, internally and externally, one’s desire to pursue gender equality, enhance diversity and support the strengthening of the female gender;
  • create a working environment that is inclusive, collaborative, supportive, transparent and open to listening to all staff.

These objectives are included in the company Strategic Plan through Performance Indicators (KPIs), based on the Thematic Areas indicated by UNI/PdR 125:2022.

If the company wants to represent a point of reference for the future, it is necessary to promote both the growth of female groups, at the top and other levels, through training tools where skills and leadership can be built, and to implement measures and tools that allow for the best reconciliation work and family, implementing all actions to accompany women and men in their task of caring for the family.
On the basis of these principles that Gesenu has made its own, the Company has long undertaken a development path aimed at non-discrimination and gender equality, first obtaining the SA 8000 certification, an accredited standard that responds to the needs of organizations that intend to stand out for their commitment to sustainable development, with particular attention to issues relating to workers’ conditions (human rights, development, valorisation, training and professional growth of people, health and safety of workers, non-discrimination, work of minors and young people), and then the UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification which constitutes the further evolution of what was started by Gesenu.
In this sense, it is appropriate to underline that gender equality represents one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals identified by the UN for 2030, objectives which were taken by Gesenu as a reference for the setting and development of its industrial plan.
