Matteo Salvini contested at the Economics Festival in Trento (PHOTO and VIDEO). Here’s who it was and the reasons

TRENT. They were some activists of Greenpeace Italy to contest the minister Matteo Salvini on the stage of the Teatro Sociale for the Economy Festival in Trento. A demonstration to denounce the government’s inaction in combating the climate crisis.

Activists showed the message “The climate changes, politics is not” and they wore the t-shirt with “Words, words, words“, to highlight the absence of concrete initiatives that are increasingly serious about the climate emergency. From the stage Salvini replied ”You are those of the electric cars produced in China, you haven’t understood anything about life. Drought, my friend. You have the wrong address, go to Veneto to talk about drought, phenomenon. It’s been raining for months. Go talk to the people of Verona about drought and start running” (Article here).

“The devastating floods in Lombardy And Veneto and the drought that grips several areas of south of the country they are yet another tragic testimony that the climate crisis is already the most serious threat to our security today”, he comments Simona Abbate, Climate and Energy campaign by Greenpeace Italy. “Instead of adopting decisive and decisive measures, the government continues to pursue false solutions such as fossil gas, which worsens global warming. Minister Salvini, in his electoral campaign, stands as a champion against European green policies, but in doing so it does nothing but slow down the energy transition we desperately need, condemning Italy to face increasingly extreme and destructive climate events.”

In addition to the government’s inaction, many Italian political leaders, including those of the opposition, do not seem to take the ongoing climate emergency seriously. Precisely on Wednesday 22 May, Greenpeace Italia released the data of new monitoring carried out by the Pavia Observatory on behalf of the environmental organisation on the Italian electoral campaign for the European elections, from which it emerges that the climate is the great absentee in the political debate.

Only 8% of the declarations of the main Italian political leaders make at least a mention of the climate crisis, but those actually dedicated to global warming are just 4%, and also include declarations against the climate actions.

Today Greenpeace Italia contested the vice prime minister becauseaccording to the monitoring of the Pavia Observatory, rhe turns out to be the Italian political leader who more than anyone takes ambiguous positions, resistant or opposed to climate actionsometimes reaching outright climate denialism.

The monitoring was conducted on the declarations of the main eleven Italian political leaders posted on Facebook, collected in the evening editions of the Rai, Mediaset and La7 television news programs and in the main political talk shows and in-depth television programs in the period from 1 to 14 May. The list of political figures analyzed includes: Bonelli, Calendar, With you, Fratoianni, Magi, Melons, Picket Fratin, RenziSalvini, Schlein And Tajani.
