The Municipality of Turin denies the free concession of the premises in Corso Moncalieri to the Red Cross

The Italian Red Cross saw its request for free concession of two premises in the pre-hill area rejected by the Municipality of Turin. This decision represents a serious blow to the organization, which aimed to establish a support garrison in the area Beyondthe beating heart of the city.

Request Rejected

The story starts from the redevelopment of the former customs house Corso Moncalieri 80, a historic building transformed into a cultural hub thanks to a redevelopment project that took place last year. Initially, the 8th District had approved the assignment of two rooms on the first floor to the Italian Red Cross, allowing it to create a long-awaited operational base in the Oltrepo area.

However, the Heritage Department of the Municipality of Turin has unilaterally decided to deny this possibility, motivating its choice with the presumed availability of sufficient economic funds from the Red Cross to pay the rent of the premises in question, rather than obtaining free concession.

National Significant Organization

The Italian Red Cross is a volunteer organization of great importance, present throughout the national territory. Founded in 1864, it operates in close collaboration with public authorities and other components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Areas of Intervention

The organization plays a crucial role in numerous areas, including:

  • Health care: Provides emergency services and healthcare in the event of natural disasters, armed conflicts and other crisis situations.
  • Support for vulnerable groups: Offers support to the most vulnerable people, such as the elderly, disabled and homeless, through the distribution of basic necessities and the provision of assistance services.
  • Training and awareness: Promotes the training of volunteers and healthcare personnel, as well as awareness campaigns on issues such as health, safety and respect for human rights.

Thanks to its constant commitment and its vast network of volunteers, the Italian Red Cross represents a fundamental pillar for the protection and assistance of communities in emergency and need situations.
