LAMEZIA TERME (CZ), 23 MAY 2024 – The authorities have issued a press release regarding an operation conducted by the police in Lamezia Terme, in which a precautionary custody order in prison was carried out against a 21-year-old individual years of Romanian origin, identified as GA, seriously suspected of attempted extortion.
According to the investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Gizzeria Lido station under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Lamezia Terme, the suspect would have perpetrated a series of death threats against his mother and brother in the period between April and May 2024 The aim of the threats was to obtain money to purchase narcotics. The family, exhausted and fearful of the young man’s violent conduct, decided to turn to the competent authorities.
The investigations revealed that, faced with the mother’s refusal to hand over the money, the suspect reached extreme levels of violence: he allegedly threatened the woman with the intention of setting her on fire, surprising her as she left her home and pouring contained petrol on her. in a plastic bottle.
The Judge for the Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Lamezia Terme, based on the investigative evidence collected, agreed with the seriousness of the facts and the need to protect the community, applying the precautionary measure of custody in prison towards the suspect.
It is important to underline that, according to the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence, the measure does not imply a declaration of guilt, but aims solely to guarantee the safety of society and the fairness of criminal proceedings.
