Sicily is a world of biodiversity that will now be protected.

It is well known that Sicily was truly one of the points of biodiversity. From now on, however, it will also be protected under the collaboration agreement with the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), one of the five national centers dedicated to frontier research, financed by the PNRR and coordinated by the CNR with the aim of contributing to the achievement of the objectives. of the United Nations Agenda 2030. The president of the Sicilian Region, the regional councilor for the Environment, the general director of Arpa Sicilia, the rector of the University of Palermo and the president of Nbfc signed the agreement.

The Nfbc, thanks to the patronage of the presidency of the Sicilian Region, will set up its “Biodiversity science gateway” in Palermo, and precisely within the former Roosevelt complex in Addaura, a physical and digital platform that will make it available to citizens, companies and public bodies data, results and publications to gain greater awareness on the topic and to provide support in planning international scientific and technological collaborations in the name of environmental sustainability. The structure, which houses the Arpa Sicilia headquarters, has been redeveloped by the Region with the aim of making it a scientific center of excellence. Sicily will therefore be the center of an international network dedicated to the environment and sustainable development processes thanks also to the skills and expertise of the University of Palermo engaged in the field of research and technological transfer.

Palazzo d’Orléans will guarantee the coordination of all the regional bodies and departments involved which will have to share databases, skills, know-how and human resources, collaborate in the planning of new research, in training and orientation activities on innovation issues, in support to other bodies, start-ups and spin-offs and to all those companies linked to environmental issues as well as in the dissemination of scientific knowledge dedicated to the various sectors of society, including schools, to increase the culture of the value of natural resources and promote changes in behavior collectives.
