Weather forecast in Italy, what happens in the next few hours and over the weekend

Bad weather does not let go of Italy with rain and thunderstorms. According to the latest weather forecasts, the Icelandic cyclone is still sending disturbed impulses towards northern Italy.

Andrea Garbinato, editorial manager of the website www.-, analyzing the ‘synoptic’ meteorological maps, i.e. the overall view from the Greek syn ‘together’ and opsis ‘vision’, confirms the presence of an area between Iceland and the British Isles very active cyclonic, capable of pushing disturbed fronts towards Italy.

Given the decidedly northern position of this cyclonic figure, the areas affected by the new disturbance will be the northern ones and marginally those of central Italy.

In the next few hours the front will bring more intense rain and showers to the North-West with cumulative rainfall of around 30-40 mm: nothing compared to the torrential rains of last week, in Milan over 120 mm and in Veneto over 180 mm in 24 hours.

However, it will be a disturbed Thursday 23 May in the North and in part of the Centre: thunderstorms are also expected in Upper Tuscany and northern Marche, but quick showers cannot be ruled out in the rest of Tuscany and the Marche as well as in Umbria.

This new Atlantic disturbance will quickly leave our country on Friday, with only a little residual instability: further rain is expected in the North, especially near the Alps and Pre-Alps in the morning; in the afternoon some storm outbreaks could once again reach the foothill areas and the bordering plains, in other words the areas north of the Po river.

The weekend will instead see a geographical change: the showers will move towards the Centre-South while it will improve in the North.

On Saturday 25 May, rain is expected in the mountains and in Sicily until late morning, in the afternoon, with the increase in temperatures and heat instability, we will have a few more scattered showers. The areas most affected by afternoon showers will be those in the Centre-South and locally the North-East. Due to these showers, temperatures will struggle to exceed 25°C with some peaks of 28°C only in the south.

Finally, the last Sunday of May will see stronger sunshine in the North while further showers are expected on the Adriatic coast and in the South, locally intense in the southern peninsula.

At the moment, long-term projections indicate a general improvement as early as next week with the first summer temperatures also in the North.
