Viterbo, FDI council group: “Historic center and abandoned traders”

VITERBO – We receive from the FDI Viterbo council group and publish: “Reading the statements of Mayor Frontini in recent days we discovered that a tender is underway to open new businesses in the historic center.
As far as we are concerned, rather than discovering, we have had the sad confirmation of the guilty indifference towards the historic center and its problems which are increasingly sliding towards a point of no return that can no longer be remedied.
So much for the vaunted electoral program!

Precisely in these days the Mayor and her councilor want to convince us that “mathematically” everything is fine.
Maybe he thinks he’s talking to children!
Trade, unfortunately, is not made up of the positive difference in the calculation between the openings of new businesses and the closures of others.
What happens to the quality of the offer? What happens to a minimal shred of programming? Who knows which businesses are opening? What kind? With how many new hires? And on the other hand: who closes and how long was it open? What was he doing? How many lose their jobs? These should be the analyzes and evaluations to be made. Instead we play like little mathematicians struggling with elementary school operations.

Added to all this are a series of questions that have not yet been answered. By way of list: waste collection in the center has gotten so bad that tourists leave appalling reviews; there is a widespread feeling of insecurity; the underground car park of the Shrine has been set aside; no one responds to the requests of the courageous traders who are still resisting and no one responds about the parking concessions that the opposition has requested, just as no one has taken into consideration the possibility of compensation for the trade for the many penalizing works in the centre.

Even more serious is the lack of planning for the structural relaunch of the centre, starting with the destination and use of the large empty and abandoned buildings.

To conclude: there is really nothing to rejoice in, let alone praise.
But we know that the Mayor is used to communicating and then convincing herself – she alone – that what she says is true!”
