Thirty-two years after the Capaci massacre, the FSP Police union remembers Judge Falcone and the other victims with a conference in Catanzaro.

CATANZARO – 32 years have passed, but the strength of memory has not weakened, nor the will to follow the example of honesty and courage represented by the heroes who changed history in Capaci on 23 May 1992 with their sacrifice. This is why the Union “could not miss an opportunity for reflection on this anniversary”. Fsp State Police who, together with the Fervicredo association (Association of injured and victims of crime and duty) and the association “The voice of legality” have organized a meeting in the concert hall of the Municipality for tomorrow morning, 23 May 2024, at 10.30 am of Catanzaro.

“Able to remember. In memory of the Victims while preserving Security” is the title of the conference which will open with the introduction of Rocco Morelli, provincial general secretary of the Catanzaro FSP, and Maria Marasco, national councilor of Fervicredo (Victim of Duty). This will be followed by greetings from the police commissioner, Paolo Sirna, and from the mayor of Catanzaro, Nicola Fiorita. And also by Antonio Montuoro, regional councilor and policeman, and by Giulia Anna Pucci, president of “La Voce della legalità”.
The works will be moderated by the National Secretary of the FSP Police, Giuseppe Brugnano. After the ritual greetings, the conference will come to life with the words of the deputy general prosecutor of Catanzaro, Marisa Manzini. Among the interventions there will be that of the assistant of the Flying Squad of the Naples police headquarters, Alessandra Accardo, victim of a brutal attack not long ago. Massimo Salsano, firefighter involved in the Via Palestro massacre (victim of terrorism), will also speak. Also speaking will be Bruno Bartolo, mayor of San Luca, Simone Rizzuto, coordinator of “La Voce della legalità”, Claudio Morelli, coach of Sambiase Calcio. The event will conclude with an interview between Franco Maccari, national vice president of the FSP Police, and the Honorable Wanda Ferro, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of the Interior.
Representatives of the schools IIS Vittorio Emanuele II, Liceo Classico P. Galluppi, IS Giovanna De Nobili will also participate in the conference in Catanzaro to remember the Capaci massacre where judge Falcone died.

«And above all we want to refer to the younger ones every time we honor the memory of the best personalities in our history – explains Brugnano on the eve of the meeting -. They are the ones who must take up the baton of justice and legality handed over to us by Judge Giovanni Falcone. But also from his wife Francesca Morvillo, from his escort colleagues Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro. Even from those who are not dead but bear the indelible marks of the massacre on their skin, the agents Paolo Capuzza, Angelo Corbo, Gaspare Cervello and the judicial driver Giuseppe Costanza.
Adults are also called to always keep the flame of memory burning. To work daily for the affirmation of legality and safety, to the realization of which every single gesture and with every single choice must contribute. Thus walking together with the younger ones showing them the right path. That road that was gutted by kilos of TNT, but which civil society was able to fill with courage and the desire for change. Well, that change must still be pursued every day, and we – concludes Brugnano – are doing our part, starting tomorrow”.
