Press release FP CGIL Lombardia – FP CGIL Brescia

Brescia, 22 May 2024 – Matteo Casiraghi47 years old, from Monza by birth and origins, was elected general secretary of the FP Cgil Brescia in the place of Vincenzo Moriello.

This is what the General Assembly of the provincial category meeting today decidedin the presence of, for the Confederationof the general secretary of the Brescia Chamber of Labor Francesco Bertoli and the general secretary of CGIL Lombardia Alessandro Pagano. For the Public Functionof the Lombard general secretary Manuela Vanoli and the national general secretary Serena Sorrentino.

With his new role, Casiraghi leaves the secretariat at the Chamber of Labor of Monza and Brianza, where he has worked since 2019.

“I think it’s right to make yourself available to the organization and question yourself for others. It was not at all obvious for me to choose to do something for the CGIL elsewhere, after twenty years of experience and life in the Brianza area, where I was born. And I accepted it with enthusiasm, knowing that I know extraordinary people, who have done well, and with whom, by working together, we can do better and better every day”, says the new general secretary, who in his trade union journey, all of which has been in Brianza so far, has, among others, stops in the Nidil which contributed to establishing, 4 years in Fiom, two mandates as general secretary in Flai, the agro-industry category. To then, precisely, enter the confederal secretariat.

“I consider it strategic and fundamental to complement myself with the contribution of public workers, without whom there would be no democracy in this country. I mean that the rights of citizenship, if not recognized on a daily basis in the profession of public functions, would not find dignity – specifies Casiraghi -. For this reason, in my new role, I will dedicate myself to relaunching the value and role of public work as a constitutive and constituent factor. I also believe that even more today, public functions are an expression of a renewed confederality, because they hold together the general interests of different people. We must intelligently and authoritatively take charge of what is happening, of the democratic twists underway also through the reduction of the public perimeter. We will do it, as always, with the workers, the delegates of the public sector. But also – he adds – with those and those in the private sector, which is also growing in the category. In fact, we represent all workers assigned to public functions, to a job that, through the services provided, takes care of people, producing wealth and social well-being. Here – he points out – the disparity in contractual rights between those who work in the same workplace is unbearable. The battle of the FP CGIL to apply the same wages and rights for the same job must be carried forward with determination. And, as we always do, to bring ever stronger and more inclusive rights and protections everywhere, in every area that involves us.”
