The barriers arrive at the school fence Apriliaexactly 8 months after the report and after the backlash from the local health authority, fire brigade and prefecture.
It was September 14, 2023, when the 5 Star Movement activist Andrea Ragusa reported to the Public Works sector of the Municipality of Aprilia the potentially dangerous situation represented, in via Traiano, from the border railing of the Gramsci school and the neighboring land. It is not clear whether the property, being private, was entitled to intervene or whether the municipal administration could have replaced itself by also covering the costs of the intervention.
«The railing that runs along the sidewalk was already strongly inclined at that time – explains Ragusa – and the intervention of the Sector was limited to the cutting of the tree, which had grown inside the school garden which, by placing it there, had caused the railing to lean, and the positioning of two barriers”.
The first intervention
Despite the possible danger for the numerous students and their companions, who passed along that narrow sidewalk every day, almost touching the grating, no other interventions were carried out.
For this reason, on Monday 20 May Ragusa wrote again, this time to the Prevention Department of the Local Health Authority, the Fire Brigade and the prefecture asking them to “evaluate whether there was a danger to the safety of people, things or animals”.
The second note
«After a day the area was delimited, including not only the railing and the entire pavement but also a portion of the road and thus prohibiting the transit of pedestrians and the parking of cars in the area affected by the possible collapse of the railings”, says the activist.
«Fortunately with the report, and the rapid intervention of the bodies receiving the report, the word was put to an end to a situation which could have ended unpleasantly for someone if that railing had collapsed without preventive intervention having been taken, at least to prevent the ‘affected area’.
