The General Directorate for the Security of the Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture has approved financing for 10 important projects to secure some churches, abbeys, monasteries, towers and bell towers of some dioceses in Romagna. This is a recovery of Pnrr funding for interventions initially excluded from the funds, when the applications were sent in February 2022. Among the main beneficiaries is the Abbazia del Monte. The funds allocated to this pearl of architecture, history and spirituality amount to 2.9 million euros, which is facing serious structural problems, which risk compromising its stability in some areas. Also valuable are the 240 thousand euros assigned for the cathedral of Cesena, the 185 thousand for the church of the Madonna in Quarto, in the municipality of Sarsina, the 130 thousand for the church of Sant’Apollinare di Longiano and the 325 thousand for that of San Lorenzo di Sogliano.
In reporting this news, MP Rosaria Tassinari specifies that “the funding is being examined by the Court of Auditors and will have to be spent by 2026”.
Deputy Jacopo Morrone, secretary of the Lega Romagna, highlights that those financed are «all projects of great cultural and historical importance» and focuses on the Basilica del Monte in Cesena, «a very important local heritage which – he recalls – I went to visit on 27 May last year, together with the undersecretary of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni, to verify, under the guidance of Abbot Mauro Maccarinelli, the heavy structural damage aggravated by the repeated waves of bad weather. On that occasion we hoped that funding could be found to secure the abbey which dominates Cesena from the hill where it has stood for around ten centuries. Today this hope becomes reality.”
