After the Benacvs Rally for the Daytona Race it is time for celebrations and thanks: in a recent convivial meeting the president of the Veronese association Dario Lorenzini wanted to thank all the people who did their utmost for the success of the race he organized in collaboration with the Valpolicella Rally Club and now in its nineteenth edition.
Underlining the important work carried out by each member of the staff and by all the volunteers who committed themselves to the success of the event, Lorenzini highlighted how this edition of the Benacvs Rally and the Rally del Benaco Storico was one of the best in recent years. years, hoping for a continuation of this trend for the race which takes place at the foot of Monte Baldo and which enjoys the irreplaceable support of many enthusiasts, institutions and many athletes who every year by registering confirm their appreciation for these two races.
The meeting was also an opportunity to celebrate the recent victory of Daytona Race drivers Sebastiano Serpelloni and Mauro Marchiori at the recent 4th Rally della Valpolicella Storico.
A success achieved aboard the Ford Sierra Cosworth and which allowed the driver from La Scala to achieve his first success in his career, after a thrilling and highly uncertain race full of twists and turns: “I am naturally very happy with this result, honestly I don’t I expected it, even if we had started with the best conditions to bring home a good result – Serpelloni begins to explain – the car’s set-up had been largely revised to resolve the problems that had emerged in the previous races. There are still some things to resolve but I believe that the path we have taken is the good one. In these conditions the car immediately gave us the opportunity to dare a little more than usual, allowing us to immediately be in second overall position, constantly increasing the pace and increasingly decreasing the gap with those in the lead, until until we picked up the baton at the time of their retirement.”
At this point it is also interesting to delve into the driving characteristics required by a car like the two-wheel drive Ford Sierra Cosworth, a car with over three hundred horsepower and with very little electronics to control all this power: “There aren’t many secrets to driving at This car’s limit – continues the driver – compared to modern cars, when the turbine comes in on the Sierra you still feel the classic kick, it literally slams its extra power into your back, regardless of whether you are straight on, cornering or sideways. At the time the various Sainz, Blomqvist and other champions drove it with malice to manage that power in the best way, today understanding when the turbo kicks in and managing it is really difficult, and that’s what can make the difference with this car.”
After having also been at the start of the Costa Brava Rally in Spain at the beginning of the season and after the success at the Valpolicella Storico, Serpelloni is evaluating for his next outing a participation in the Alpi Orientali Historic Rally, scheduled for 13 and 14 July and valid for the Italian Championship and Italian Historic Car Rally Trophy, and followed by a return to the beloved dirt races of the Nuraghi and Vermentino Rally and the Historic Brunello Rally: “Races with names of important wines, but after the victory of Valpolicella it could only be be otherwise!” concludes Sebastiano Serpelloni smiling.
