Attempted mirror scam in Livorno

The carabinieri of the Livorno Centro station, as part of intensified service activities aimed at combating the odious phenomenon of scams of all kinds, especially cases of scams against road users, have reported a 20-year-old man on the loose years of Sicilian origin, resident in the province of Pisa, identified by the operators as the author of an attempted scam with the “mirror technique” against a foreign tourist in her early forties passing through the city.

The young man’s fraudulent conduct dates back to a few days ago, in the Livorno area near the port, when the unaware victim, after refueling at a petrol station in via Leonardo Da Vinci, upon leaving the service area, she heard a thud on the right side of her car and immediately afterwards noticed a white Audi A3 following her a short distance away, flashing its headlights as if to signal her to stop. After coming alongside the woman, the driver of the Audi, a young man, ordered her to stop and pull over, also using a certain vehemence in her gestures and manner.

However, the woman, becoming suspicious of the entire dynamics of the so rapid and surreal episode, intended not to comply with the request of the unknown driver who appeared out of nowhere and continued on her own path, making him understand that she would not stop. At the same time, you promptly informed the police, promptly providing them with all useful information and descriptions on the subject you were asking them to pull over, on your car and on the place you were passing through. Having received the call, it took just a few moments for the patrol on external patrol duty at the Livorno Centro station to reach the lady. Unfortunately, when the police arrived, the car with the suspected fraudster disappeared, accelerating and overtaking his chosen victim. However, upon the arrival of the military, the tourist was able to provide every useful indication to start the investigation thanks also to some photos taken by her very young son, in the car with her, who was very quick to immortalize the suspicious car before it disappeared.

With the elements provided by the woman which were appropriately integrated with subsequent and in-depth investigations, the soldiers of the Livorno station traced the suspected fraudster, who was already burdened by numerous specific precedents in the field of scams. The man will have to answer to the Judicial Authority of Livorno for the attempted crime of aggravated fraud.
