LUCCA – No more masquerade parties and exhibitions: the Municipality of Lucca must immediately finish the renovation works on the Ex Cavallerizza otherwise the Region will remove the funding it had granted for the recovery of the property.
The threat, not even very veiled, comes from the regional councilor for productive activities Leonardo Marras, who, responding to a question from PD councilor Valentina Mercanti, explained that the improper use of the Ex Cavallerizza is slowing down the renovation works financed by the Region.
Marras recalled that the Ex Cavallerizza is intended to host a tourist reception point and business services but the intervention is late, because the Municipality, even before the completion of the works, has used and uses the premises for events that do not comply with the purpose for which the financing was recognized. For example, the current exhibition dedicated to Canova. The Region, added the councillor, has on various occasions formally called on the Municipality of Lucca to complete the works, avoiding hosting new initiatives that are not even foreseen in the program agreement.
At this point Marras also discussed the maintenance of the regional contribution, which – he explained – can only be confirmed on condition that the works are completed immediately and that the main use of the property is consistent with the destination envisaged by the agreement” .
