29-year-old arrested with 400 grams of cocaine on the SS106, 65-year-old arrested on board a scooter with 13 grams of drugs and another 55 grams seized from his home
The State Police made two important arrests related to drug trafficking in the city of Reggio Calabria in a few days.
The first episode took place along State Road 106, near the municipality of Condofuri. Here, the personnel of the Brancaleone Traffic Police and the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office of the Police Headquarters arrested an individual while he was transporting a narcotic substance with the intent of dealing it. The man, aboard a car, attempted to escape arrest by ignoring the policemen’s halt and heading towards Reggio Calabria. He was intercepted by the Police Headquarters and by the Traffic Officers, who identified the subject as a 29-year-old from Reggio already known to the authorities, without a license to drive a rental car. During the personal and car search, a heat-sealed package containing approximately 400 grams of cocaine was found and confiscated. Subsequently, the Police extended the checks to the young man’s home with the help of a canine unit. The judicial authority ratified the arrest and ordered the subject to be detained in prison.
The second arrest took place in the northern area of the city thanks to the intervention of the Police Headquarters. The officers noticed an individual on board a scooter who, upon seeing the patrol, attempted to get rid of a package while traveling along a stretch of pavement. After stopping him, the police recovered the package containing approximately 13 grams of cocaine. We then proceeded with the personal search of the 65-year-old from Reggio Calabria, already known to the police, and the search of his home. Here, with the help of a canine unit from the Guardia di Finanza, a quantity of cocaine equal to approximately 55 grams was found, as well as material for dividing and weighing the drug. Also in this case, the judicial authority validated the arrest and ordered the subject to be detained in prison.
