Among the various tasks that the Coast Guard ensures every day, there is that of supervising the administrative procedures during the arrival and departure of ships from national ports. An activity of absolute importance that contributes to achieving the fundamental objectives of protecting navigation safety and environmental protection.

In the era of dematerialisation and with the need to reduce administrative and bureaucratic times to a minimum, the Imperia Coast Guard lays the foundations for a concrete response to the community directives which require Member States to resort to the use of IT systems capable to speed up the completion of maritime formalities during stops in Italian and European ports. The first step in this direction was carried out with the creation of an IT system which made it possible to standardize communications between the Maritime Authorities and the maritime cluster in 112 Italian ports, including Imperia.

At the instigation of the Commander of the Port Authority of Imperia, Frigate Captain Matteo Prantner, the innovative technological project was also extended to the smaller ports of the Imperia area which had until now been excluded from the revolutionary digital system called NMSW-PMIS.

The Commander of the Port Authority of Imperia has in fact announced that “after a necessary training period managed directly by the men of the Port Authority of Imperia in favor of all private and public users interested in the new digital platform, now also the ports of Sanremo, Bordighera and Ventimiglia increase the level of quality in the computerized management of the arrival and departure of ships, projecting themselves into the future on a par with equally important ports on the national scene. An achievement made possible also thanks to the fruitful relationship with the Head of the Maritime District of Sanremo, Lieutenant Isabella De Luca”.

With this important step towards the digitalisation of the maritime sector, western Liguria remains in step with the rest of the national and European maritime reality, being able to reap the advantages that this technological revolution can concretely bring
