BOLOGNA – He has been retired for nine years, but does not give up daily meetings with students and teaching literature. And so he continues to be a professor. Michele Sartori at the age of 73 he remains a teacher at the San Benedetto high school in Piacenza, a sports science school of Catholic inspiration. And six years ago it was the first “phone free” Italian school, providing students with special cases in which to store their cell phones, which can only be opened via a plate similar to anti-shoplifting systems.
Sartori’s story is doubly particular, because the teaching staff he is part of is on average very young: he can certainly bring decades of experience gained, starting from 1978, “by doing substitute work in Bobbio, Bettola, Castel San Giovanni, and again at Leonardo Da Vinci and Respighi”, then 33 years at Isii Marconi.
“After retirement, I received a phone call from the president of San Benedetto high school” Fabrizio Bertamoni “and he asked me to do a substitute job for a month – concludes Sartori -. In this short time I got on very well with both the students and the other teachers. So why not continue?”, he told the Piacenza newspaper Libertà. Despite the commitment it entails to continue to remain in the classroom “it is a pleasure to teach students, even the exuberant ones. They allow me to see reality with different eyes. They taught me to be authoritative”.
