Again great satisfaction for the entire community of the “PN Vaccina” school in Andria which for the second year saw one of its students climb onto the podium of the Mediterranean Mathematical Games, held on Sunday 19 May at the University of Palermo: Nicola Grossi, attending class 2nd A. A moment of great satisfaction and pride for the director F. Attimonelli, the mathematics teacher, Teresa Cirulli, for all the classmates and teachers of the same school, who share the triumph with Nicola to achieve this important goal.

«The competitions of the Mediterranean Mathematical Games are, together with many other educational competitions in which our school takes part, an important opportunity for discussion for our students, called to test themselves not only with themselves and their acquired skills , but also with other students coming from other realities”, – explains the Director of the School Institute – “also a way to understand that all the exercise and study that the school trains in on a daily basis can have concrete implications, such as carrying out a competition. This triumph, which comes for the second consecutive year, last year with Piergiorgio Fuzio and this year with Nicola Grossi, tells us that we are working well and that we must continue in this direction.”

The 1st grade compete in the different phases foreseen by the announcement: the institute qualifications, the institute finals, the area/regional finals, the national finals. Taking part in the national finals were all the students who came first in the area/regional finals, plus a group of students who qualified as second in the same area/regional phases. 100 students took part in Nicola’s group, who had to answer 15 questions and logic problems within 90 minutes.

«It was a moment of great emotion, – commented Nicola – a lot of emotion, but this did not prevent me from maintaining concentration and completing the questions in the shortest time possible. The exercises I did daily with my teacher were very useful, but I discovered that I also had my own method. I also really enjoyed having this experience at a university. Being seated among these desks, very different from those at school, has a certain effect. And then Palermo is beautiful, I had never visited it. Seeing the tomb of Frederick II, which we talked about so much at school, was incredible.”

Nicola answered all the questions correctly and was the second fastest in arriving at the resolutions after a student from a school in Frosinone, faster only by a handful of seconds. He can’t wait to go back to school and show everyone his trophies: a cup, a drone and a lot of happiness for this achievement which is all about him, his family and his school.
