Viareggio, around 400 thousand smoking products seized: shop without authorisation

The soldiers of the Provincial Command of Lucca, following a targeted info-investigative activity, carried out an initiative check aimed at verifying the correct application of the rules regulating the sale of Monopoly products, by accessing the headquarters of a business commercial, current in Viareggio, selling products other than food.

During operational activities, the Financiers of the Viareggio Group found numerous products falling within the product category of “tobacco accessories”, such as papers and filters, displayed for sale on the shelves, finding that the owner of the business in question, a man of Italian nationality, was not in possession of the required authorizations for the sale of such goods.

Consequently, the criminal seizure of over 380,000 goods of this type was carried out, corresponding to a weight equal to approximately 16 kg. For the foregoing, pursuant to the relevant legislation, the owner of the controlled commercial business was referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Lucca for the violation of the articles. 96 of Law n.907/1942 and 8 of Law n. 27/1951.

The operation represents further evidence of the Corps’ constant commitment to safeguarding economic legality in the area and to protecting healthy economic operators who respect the rules.

It is specified that due to the principle of innocence, the responsibility of the people subjected to investigations will be
definitively ascertained only where an irrevocable sentence of conviction occurs.
