Patient repatriated from Ukraine – Teramo

MARTINSICURO. He is repatriated from Ukraine Paolo Maccario, the 65-year-old from Martinsicuro who was hospitalized in a nursing home in Lviv. He was transferred – with a two-day journey by ambulance because the inconveniences in the intermediate airports did not allow air transport – to the Mazzini hospital in Teramo, where he is hospitalized in the internal medicine department.

His story was told by the program broadcast on Raitre “Chi l’ha visto”. After a first episode dedicated to Maccario’s case, the broadcast crew visited the town of Truento twice more to follow the story given the great outcry that the story also aroused at a national level. Journalists and operators from the well-known television program returned yesterday. first to Martinsicuro then to the Teramo hospital for updates to be broadcast in the next episode. After the consent given by Maccario’s Ukrainian wife, diplomacy moved to bring the 65-year-old, who had expressed his desire to return to his country of origin, back to Italy.
In fact, following a serious illness that compromised his ability to express himself, Maccario was hospitalized in Lviv due to the lower costs he had to bear compared to Italy. After the television broadcast, the Truentine municipal administration contacted the Farnesina which, through the Italian consul in Ukraine, started the procedure for the repatriation of the 65-year-old. Having completed the necessary bureaucratic formalities, therefore, Paolo began his journey, aboard an ambulance for approximately 1,800 kilometres, at the end of which he arrived at the Teramo hospital where he immediately underwent the first clinical tests.

Maccario appeared very debilitated and after the checks he should be transferred to a center where he will be able to receive specific treatment for the pathologies found in him. Full availability for collaboration was expressed by the mayor of Truentino Massimo Vagnoni. (sds)
