Convincing victory for ITS Sir Umbria Academy Assisi in Race 1
ITS Sir Umbria Academy Assisi triumphed in Game 1 of the playoff final of the men’s regional Serie C, putting one foot in Serie B. In the packed PalaSir of Santa Maria degli Angeli, coach Moscioni’s team clearly prevailed with a clear 3-0 against ITS Sir Umbria Academy SM degli Angeli, led by coach Fontana.
Assisi dominates in the first two sets
The match, also followed by president Sirci and the first team’s technical staff, saw an overwhelming start from the Assisi team. In the first two sets, coach Moscioni’s team demonstrated greater experience and technical mastery than their opponents, with Bregliozzi and his teammates keeping errors to a minimum and playing high-level volleyball.
In the first set, Sensi’s effective serve allowed Assisi to build an early 8-2 lead. Despite a recovery attempt by SM degli Angeli, led by Fiori, Assisi maintained control and closed the set at 25-17 with a first half by Sensi.
SM degli Angeli’s resistance in the third set
The second set saw another strong start from Assisi, who quickly took a 4-0 lead thanks to Sensi and Urbani. Despite some flashes of resistance from Dionigi and Severini, Assisi continued to dominate, closing the set with an ace from Rus at 25-16.
The third set was more competitive, with SM degli Angeli showing greater determination. After an initial advantage by Assisi, SM degli Angeli managed to take a 17-18 lead thanks to an error by Sensi. However, Urbani’s coolness and a decisive maniout from Rus allowed Assisi to regain control and close the set 25-23, sealing the victory.
Towards Race 2
With this victory, ITS Sir Umbria Academy Assisi has taken an important step forward towards promotion to Serie B. Game 2 will be held next Saturday, 25 May, again at PalaSir, where Assisi will have the opportunity to close the series and celebrate the promotion. On the other hand, ITS Sir Umbria Academy SM degli Angeli will try to turn the situation around and force a decisive Game 3.
The match highlighted the strength and preparation of the Assisi team, while SM degli Angeli will have to work on their weaknesses to hope to extend the series. The appointment is therefore for next Saturday, when we will find out if Assisi will manage to close the accounts or if SM degli Angeli will reopen the challenge.
