«We not only have an opponent, namely the right, but we also have another more insidious and silent one, namely indifference. It affects many people who no longer believe that voting makes a difference.” This was said by Elly Schlein, the secretary of the Democratic Party, who yesterday, on her electoral tour in Tuscia, stopped in Viterbo where she first met the Dem voters in Piazza del Gesù, then visited Assaggi, the food and wine fair of Lazio organized by the Rieti – Viterbo Chamber of Commerce, currently taking place at the Palazzo dei Papi « We are trying to change the Democratic Party to change the country – she added – If we face this challenge together from the territory, I am convinced that we have the right to happiness . We have the right to put people’s happiness back at the center of this country’s politics.”
The dem secretary, who spoke about European elections but also about women’s rights, wars in the world and work.
«We must abolish free internships, because free internships don’t pay the rent – said Schlein – This right has canceled 330 million of a rent fund that helped tens of thousands of families across the country. We, however, want that fund to be tripled, because we see the struggle of people with rents increased by 30 or 40%”.
The secretary of the Democratic Party added that «We also have another priority: we are collecting signatures for a popular initiative law, a law of civility, which establishes a minimum wage in Italy. Below 9 euros it is not work but exploitation and therefore cannot be legal. We had already presented it in parliament and the right turned its back on more than three million workers who are poor even if they work, who are unable to bring home lunch. They emptied it, they didn’t even have the courage to bury it with a vote against.”
Elly Schlein was accompanied by Enrico Panunzi, Alessandra Troncarelli, Lina Delle Monache, Alvaro Ricci and Francesca Sanna. The regional councilor of the Democratic Party himself underlined that «the national secretary of the Democratic Party and its previous emanations had to come to Viterbo for years. The party is there, people must vote for our symbol. We recognize a tribute above all to her, Elly, who is running to demonstrate that the Democratic Party exists.”
The dem secretary, who before Viterbo, was at the Civita Castellana market, continued the tour of Tuscia in Montefiascone, Acquapendente, Tarquinia and Civitavecchia.
