Bari, struck by lightning: 17-year-old dies in the fields

Tragedy in Santeramo in Colle, in the province of Bari, where this afternoon a 17-year-old died after being hit by a lightning. The police and the 118 service intervened on the spot but, despite the rescue efforts, the boy did not make it.

The tragedy

According to what we learn from initial information, the boy was engaged in grazing activities in the Santeramo countryside together with his father when he was surprised by a violent storm. Lightning hit him squarely, throwing him to the ground. The young man managed to get up, but shortly afterwards he collapsed again. A circulatory arrest caused by the powerful electric discharge would be fatal. Having arrived at the scene of the tragedy, the 118 operators confirmed his death.

Last December 23rd, Evelina Tommasonia 53-year-old from Manerbio, died after being struck by lightning during an excursion on Monte Guglielmo, in the Brescia area.

The woman was rescued, intubated on the spot and transferred by helicopter to the Papa Giovanni XVIII hospital in Bergamo, but her condition immediately appeared desperate.
