Regardless of the result, it was another day of celebration. And not just in the stands of Via del Mare – entirely colored yellow and red – but also in the streets of Leccewhere in the late evening the team took a tour on an open-top bus, to celebrate the second consecutive salvation in Serie A together with all the fans and the city.
Mathematically safe for a week already – even before playing the last three championship matches, as has never happened before – the Giallorossi of mister Luca Gotti they received the embrace of the over 26,000 spectators at the stadium, who came for the last home match of the season and paid their favorites, the coach and the club, the right tribute for yet another sporting miracle accomplished.
Choirs, songs, flags and yellow-red smoke bombs – as well as an increasingly intense rain – welcomed the entry of the teams onto the pitch, where a few moments before Gioy Rielli (author of Lecce’s official anthem) had everyone present singing.
On the green rectangle Lecce And Atalanta they did not hold back, playing openly from the start of the match and creating a lively first half, in which there was no shortage of opportunities, disallowed goals and poles, as well as rough contrasts and competitive spirit between the Salento and Bergamo players: the former eager to give the ultimate home-made joy to its supporters; the latter engaged in the “general rehearsals” for Wednesday, when they will face in the Europa League final Bayer Leverkusen. However, the greater quality of the guests emerged at the beginning of the second half, when one went wild Scamacca first (in the 48th minute) he provided the assist to the substitute De Ketelaere to make it 1-0 and then (in the 53rd minute) he took advantage of an outgoing error by the Giallorossi goalkeeper Falcone, heading the final 2-0.
Despite the defeat, the second in a row at home, and the rain that accompanied the entire match, at the final whistle the celebration of the Giallorossi fans continued, which from the stadium – after the team’s tour of the pitch – then moved to the city center, ending in jubilation in the central Piazza Sant’Oronzo: for the third consecutive year, Lecce is in Serie A.
