PERUGIA – The Perugia issue is more relevant than ever in view of the next elections. With a long post on social media, the centre-right mayoral candidate Margherita Scoccia asks the centre-left what the true position of the wide field on the work is. «Yesterday – she writes Scoccia – during a meeting, we presented some strategic projects for the city of Perugia that our coalition fully supports: the Node project, the strengthening of the airport, the construction of the Metrobus. We wanted to expose these projects with clarity and transparency out of respect for the citizens, who have the right to know our position on issues that can really impact the lives of all Perugia in the coming years.

Scoccia continues: «A little later, in the afternoon, the leader of the 5 Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, visited Perugia for his electoral tour. After a few questions with the journalists, he was asked a specific question about the Perugia Node, which has been at the center of the electoral campaign for a few days. Conte preferred to hide behind silence, abandoning those present without a response and then heading towards his rally in the square. I’m honest, I didn’t expect it.”

The centre-right candidate writes again: «I don’t think it’s correct that the second party of the coalition, the 5 Star Movement, precisely because of that wide-ranging idea that they are trying to experiment with in Perugia, can afford to remain silent on such a crucial issue. It is not towards the city, the candidate it represents, its coalition. And it is not towards those who, in that same coalition, perhaps, have a different position (I read, yesterday, about the Democratic Party and Pensa Perugia, of which in any case I have not found official statements in this regard). Just as I find it disrespectful – and you will forgive me for being frank after an electoral campaign in which I never attacked on any occasion – that Vittoria Ferdinandi declares that the issue will be discussed when it becomes a concrete issue.”

We read again in the post: «Frankly, I cannot understand such an attitude. Because if the electoral campaign is the moment in which citizens form an idea of the city that will be, then it is necessary that each of us candidates, each with their own different sensitivities, at least take the responsibility of expressing themselves clearly on the crucial issues that concern our city. And the Node, for example, is. And not only because Margherita Scoccia declared herself in favor. The node is a crucial topic because the city talks about it, because it has generated debate (often heated, as is right and logical), because it is an infrastructure that can change the lives of many people. I deeply respect those who have different opinions from mine on this issue, because political dialectics is based exactly on this: proposing, discussing, implementing. And because I will be the mayor of everyone, not just those who agree with me.”

Scoccia adds: «But this is what a mayor, in my opinion, must at least try to do: have a clear idea of the city, a clear idea of the future, a clear idea of the Perugia that will be. Even clashing, as often happens, with those who have different opinions, as is logical to happen in politics. And so I am forced to ask for clarity, to at least try to understand which idea of the city we are clashing with in this electoral campaign.”

The centre-right candidate concludes: «The Perugian left, therefore, is for or against the Node and the other strategic works that are being talked about in recent days? And what position does the Democratic Party have? Will the 5 Star Movement remain silent as Conte did yesterday or will it stop, as it has already done throughout the rest of Italy, another strategic work for Perugia? It’s a question of clarity and seriousness. Of respect for the voters and for the city. Will we talk about Knot when it becomes a concrete topic? Well, the time is now. Let’s get to the crux of the matter, let’s really do it.”
