GUARDIALFIERA. “As long as you are restless you can rest assured”! It was the paradox enunciated by Julien Green, a powerful narrator of the last century. According to him, we can consider ourselves safe if our soul is assailed by doubts and fears.
I am concerned, however, by that “Molise 1” Viaduct still floating for over 7 km on Lake Guardialfiera and built in the early 1970s to a height of 185 metres. And I am increasingly scared considering the rigor and infallibility of physics and science, according to which “the useful life of reinforced concrete buildings is around 50 years”. And, wanting to make a concession, the text continues: “for structures built with excellent robustness – periodically protecting them from chemical, physical and freeze/thaw attacks; and by administering the 10 mm concrete cover technique – durability could also be somewhat delayed”. But – despite the tenuous reassurances – in our specific case – how can the reinforcement of the reinforcing irons ever be administered if the pylons of the viaduct sink below 140 million cubic metres. of water? And if elsewhere – although in the absence of water – a long trail of viaducts really collapsed in Italy, without the bridges having been able to experience at least a dozen birthdays? The list of collapses – updated, incontestable and frighteningly endless – has been notified from time to time to those responsible.

Let’s get out of fear, let’s no longer get lost along the way. Let’s make the streets, let’s make that road! Without flourishes, without more twists and turns.
