Three life-saving cases within a few days, performed remotely between the hospitals of Sapri and Polla and the Umberto I of Nocera Inferiore. The stroke network of the ASL Salerno has now become an integral tool of the company processes and networks – through telemedicine – the company’s professionals and hospitals, guaranteeing citizens timely intervention on stroke in the entire territory of the ASL’s competence of the Salerno province.
The telestroke business model is now consolidated and functional. Specifically, in recent days two cases have been treated, performed on patients in stable conditions and who could therefore be treated directly at the Immacolata hospital in Sapri, and who did not require mechanical thrombectomy.
Patients treated in complete safety by a multidisciplinary team, through a teleconsultation between the operators of Sapri, the Neurology and Neuroradiology of the Dea of Nocera.
Thrombolysis is a treatment that dissolves a thrombus in an artery. It is carried out by specialized and trained medical figures, and involves the administration of particular drugs and requires the use of radiological imaging techniques. The third case was recorded this night at the Polla hospital: the patient was first subjected to thrombolysis at the same hospital, carried out in teleconsultation with the neurologists and neuroradiologists of the DEA of Nocera, and was subsequently transferred to Nocera to undergo to mechanical thrombectomy.
The telestroke is a project that started in 2023 at the instigation of the general director Gennaro Sosto, and which today is present throughout the entire company hospital network to guarantee the best safety and greatest equity of care throughout the province of Salerno.
