Quartu is increasingly at the center of the international karate scene. Victories, prizes, great satisfactions: from the Veterans to the Junior categories, the Quartese athletes collect prizes and the Mayor Milia once again does not remain indifferent but personally congratulates those who honor the city by raising its name well beyond the island’s borders , as in the case of Roberto Cinus And Umberto Cancemi.

The First Citizen has in fact received in his offices the two karateki, who recently graduated as Italian champions. The ritual compliments and the delivery of the Sardinian pin with the four Moors, a strong testimony of identity for the Sardinian people, in this specific case surrounded by green, a prominent color in the flag of the city of Quartu.

The 39-year-old Roberto Cinus has just won the national title in the Castellanza finals, in the Veterans category. Already vice world champion, in Lombardy he was number one both in the art of kumite (fighting) and in kata (forms). And after 26 years of karate he is now transmitting the same passion to his 8-year-old son: “it certainly promises well” confirms the champion father.

Umberto Cancemi is just 17 years old but can already boast great satisfaction. Last March he placed second at the World Championships in the Cadet category, while in the Italian Championships at the end of April he took the title against even bigger opponents than him, in the Junior category. Great stubbornness and absolute determination for the very young athlete, which right now leads him to say “one day I will personally manage a karate gym”.

Sardinia stands out in karate and Quartu stands out on the island – declared the Mayor Graziano Milia -. It is a sport in which the focus is not merely on victory but also on the art of movement, and also allows you to develop qualities related to health and mental strength, emphasizing concentration and awareness. Meeting these guys and congratulating them personally means recognizing the value of the path they have taken, in which obstinacy and perseverance have defeated even the difficulties. I therefore hope that many young people from Quarto can take example from them” concluded the First Citizen.
