In Matera and Calvello I travel to the ceramic workshops

MATERA – It is undoubtedly the best formula for promoting experiential and slow tourism. We are talking about «Good morning ceramics», a national initiative scheduled today and tomorrow in fifty-seven municipalities, which for ten editions has allowed you to travel through the cities and explore them, without missing out on those details that ultimately make the difference, even in a city like Matera. Not only the setting for major film productions, but also a place of production, both cultural and artisanal. This is demonstrated by the laboratories located between the Sassi districts and the historic center. Showcases of original and unique works, including ceramic productions that are now widely spread, and which have led to Matera’s entry into the prestigious Club of Ceramic Cities. Today and tomorrow these workshops will be open to visitors who in this way will be able to get to know the artists, and with them a heritage created with an ancient technique but open to contemporary taste.

The initiative is organized by the municipal administration in collaboration with the artisan associations Cna and Confartigianato, and conceived and promoted on a national scale by the AICC (Italian Association of Ceramic Cities). A journey that crosses the peninsula, from the ancient villages to the small and large centres, in Basilicata Matera and Calvello, recognized as territories of “established ceramic tradition”, with their workshops, ateliers, museums, schools and art galleries art. An invitation therefore to meet this weekend, the protagonists of the sector, ten in all for this edition, in the city of the Sassi: Mario Daddiego with his laboratory in via Madonna dell’Idris, Piero Colapietro in the Casalnuovo district, Maria Bruna Festa in via Bruno Buozzi, Dacia Capriotti in via San Biagio, Anna Di Cuia, Mirella Caruso and Christian Andrisani in via delle Beccherie, Marica Montemurro and Giovanni Papapietro in via Torraca and Marco Brunetti in piazza del Sedile: from 10am to 6pm they will open their shops to welcome tourists and citizens, with the possibility, to be agreed upon prior booking, of having an experience in the workshop under the guidance of the atelier owners, aimed at creating a terracotta artefact to take away, in memory of an emotionally engaging experience.

An activity included within the experiential tourism project promoted by Cna entitled «Matera Artisan&Habdcraft Experience» now in its fifth edition. In addition to the visits to the workshops, a second appointment is planned, the inauguration of the photographic exhibition on the master ceramists who work in the city of Sassi, and which will be hosted in the headquarters of the Cna of Matera in via degli Aragonesi. The exhibition will be open to the public on May 24th at 6.30pm and will be open to visitors, with free admission, until June 30th. The initiative is part of the «Materracotta» project promoted by Cna, the University of Basilicata-Dicem and the Aps Ets architectural experiments association.
