The State Police conducted a large-scale operation across the country to combat the illicit storage and disposal of waste, highlighting numerous forms of illegality in the environmental protection sector. The operations, coordinated by the SCO at a central level, involved the Flying Squads and the Sisco in 33 provinces, with the specialist support of the regional agencies for environmental protection and the traffic police. In some provinces, the peripheral structures of the National Port Authority Corps were also involved. Among the provinces controlled, also Ragusa.

Control of areas used for illicit storage

Between 13 and 15 May, over 168 areas suspected of being used for the illicit storage and conservation of waste were inspected, 40 of which were seized. More than 1763 subjects were identified, with 103 people reported in a state of freedom for crimes related to illicit waste management, 2 people arrested in flagrante delicto and over 85 administrative violations detected for an amount exceeding 200 thousand euros.

Police checks took place in the following provinces: Ascoli Piceno, Asti, Avellino, Bari, Benevento, Biella, Caltanissetta, Caserta, Crotone, Foggia, Frosinone, Genoa, Isernia, L’Aquila, Latina, Lucca, Monza Brianza, Naples , Nuoro, Pistoia, Pordenone, Rome, Ragusa, Reggio Calabria, Rovigo, Salerno, Syracuse, Taranto, Turin, Trapani, Venice, Verbania and Vibo Valentia.
