Coldiretti Valle d’Aosta worried about crop delays – Valledaostaglocal.it

The situation of the camps in Valle d’Aosta is not at the moment as alarming as that recorded in Veneto and Lombardy, the two regions most affected by the bad weather in the last 24 hours, but it presents some critical elements which could worsen in the next few days without a significant improvement in weather conditions. This was stated by Coldiretti Valle d’Aosta following a monitoring conducted on Aosta Valley companies.

What worries the regional Federation in particular is the delay in crops caused by the still low temperatures, the lack of sun and the abundant rainfall. “We are in the period of sowing potatoes and transplanting vegetables and close to the haymaking period, two activities that are experiencing delays due to the intense rains” they underline Alessia Gontier and Elio Gascorespectively President and Director of Coldiretti Valle d’Aosta.

All activities in the fields with impregnated soils they go into difficulty as well as viticulture and fruit growing in which the high humidity associated with vegetative growth and the hoped-for rise in temperatures favors the development of pathogenic fungi harmful to the vine and fruit plants”.

Agriculture – concludes Coldiretti – is the economic activity which, more than all the others, experiences the consequences of climate change on a daily basis with the damage caused by drought and bad weather which, throughout Italy, exceeded 6 billion in 2023 EUR.
