What is a fallout bunker

Fallout shelters are nothing new, especially for those who experienced international tensions during the Cold War. These underground buildings are a housing solution to avoid nuclear radiation contamination in the event of an attack.

The project which started from the Brescia area, instead, presents itself as first bunker village in Italy. A novelty in the Italian housing panorama, designed to emphasize safety and protection in a context of growing geopolitical uncertainty.

How the bunker village of Brescia is made

Tecnocasa has been appointed to deal with the sale of these properties in the future anti-atomic village. But how exactly will it be done? And how much will a single shelter cost?

The bunker village of Brescia will consist of 8 fallout shelterseach of which will have the following characteristics:

  • great 40 walkable square meters (more or less like a studio apartment);
  • can accommodate up to 5 people;
  • equipped with a system air filteringto make the environment habitable even in emergency situations;
  • reinforced concrete walls60 centimeters thick;
  • anti-explosion armored doors in steel and reinforced concrete, weighing 1,000 kilograms.

How much does a fallout shelter cost

In the future bunker village in the Brescia area, each refuge will start from a base price of 180 thousand euros. Interest is already palpable, with the first calls already recorded from potential buyers. But one of the main features that make this solution already attractive is in the innovative construction and design systemand in depth.

In fact, the village will be excavated at one depth of 5 metersmore than the 2 meters under which most of the bunkers already built in the world are hidden.

What an anti-atomic bunker should look like: the requirements imposed by NATO

Modern fallout bunkers must comply rigorous safety criteria, imposed by NATO, the Atlantic pact of which Italy is part, to guarantee protection during nuclear attacks. These requirements include the following factorsthe:

  • structural resistance;
  • air filtration systems;
  • logistical autonomy to ensure the survival of the occupants.

How many anti-atomic bunkers are there in Italy?

Brione’s initiative currently represents an isolated case in Lombardy, and marks an important step towards the promotion of safe and innovative housing solutions for the future, and in cases of extreme emergency.

But also in the rest of Italy, the presence of anti-atomic bunkers is limitedunlike its neighbor Swisswhich adopted a broader civil protection policy, with the construction of over 370 thousand anti-atomic bunkerscapable of hosting the entire population in case of emergency.
