Fleximan was taken. He was reported by the Carabinieri of Adria and the Mobile Radio Operations Unit, the alleged person responsible for some of the damage to speed cameras in the province of Padua and Rovigo which occurred in recent months. This is a 42-year-old man, resident in Polesine, but born in Padua. His house was searched and items necessary for the investigation were seized. The crime of damage is suspected against him.
What happened
There are at least several incidents attributed to the suspect in the province of Rovigo: two damages in Bosaro on 19 May and 19 July last year; in Corbola and Taglio di Po on Christmas Eve; finally in Rosolina, on January 3rd, along the Statale 309 Romea. The modus operandi is always the same: a clean cut with the flexible pole that supports the equipment. There have also been many incidents in the Padua area, which for now, however, do not appear to have been reported to him
Investigators’ doubts
The Paduan investigators of the Carabinieri and the local police currently rule out that the man arrested in the province of Rovigo could also be the perpetrator of the attacks that brought the Paduan area to its knees between last summer and the first months of the year. The impression we have always had is that the individual episodes occurred through emulation, but that they are not connected to each other. We are still working on the search for circumstantial evidence with the imperative of definitively closing the circle around a phenomenon that has caused a lot of talk, has created conflicting opinions on the importance of velox and at the same time has caused considerable economic damage.
The salient facts in the Padua area
It all started last summer when in Codoneghe on the evening of August 9th someone saturated a speed measuring device located along the Santo del Santo road with gunpowder. In the explosion, which purely by chance caused no injuries, the meter was completely destroyed. At the time, the fact that the instrument rendered unusable by the explosion had been installed only two months earlier had caused a sensation. On January 19th, another speed camera was knocked down in Carceri along Regional Road 10. In this case, again in the middle of the night, the perpetrators of the vandalism used
a flexible one. It took just a few minutes and the speed measuring device collapsed to the ground.
The assault that actually created the most curiosity and where a real task force began to bring the vandals to justice was the one in via Piovego in Villa del Conte which occurred between 22 and 23 January. In this case, the perpetrators of the destruction of the speed camera, the evening before going into action, left a note on the pole of the speed meter announcing that “Fleximan” would arrive. The investigation started in real time coordinated by the local Federation Police
and the carabinieri of the Cittadella Company.
