“Volunteer guards to defend city parks”

We receive and publish a speech by Giampiero Epufani, deputy secretary of the House of Moderates, where he is responsible for Nature and the Environment

Good morning ?
I am sending you my statement regarding the fire that broke out yesterday in Parco Di Giulio

The fire broke out in Brindisi between Parco Di Giulio and part of the Canal
Patri, requires from our movement and, we hope also from the community and politics, a serious reflection on city parks and areas
greens of the city.

The vast fire practically jeopardized the safety of citizens and residents in the immediately surrounding areas and, if it had not been for the prompt intervention of the Fire Brigade, it could have caused even more serious damage.

Obviously it will be the competent bodies that will establish and investigate the causes of what happened, however we cannot fail to consider that what happened inevitably fits into a context of lack of safety within parks and green areas.

It is no coincidence that the Di Giulio Park has often been the scene (especially in recent months) of acts of vandalism that are no longer tolerable, as is the case in the Cesare Braico Park (a green lung that has always been very popular with the citizens of Brindisi).
situations of danger and lack of safety continue to exist, among other things reported several times by the undersigned.

Emblematic and significant examples of a situation to which undoubtedly the
The Municipal Administration of Brindisi pays the utmost attention, but, evidently, the installation of surveillance systems and cameras (linked to financing and projects) is not a complete solution to the problem.

And so, the “House of Moderates” of Brindisi launches a proposal (also already made by some environmentalist associations) to the Municipal Administration: why not make use of the activity of Volunteer Guards already present and operational for several years
on the territory?

This would be a choice that would consolidate the relationship between the institutions and a world of volunteering that deserves to be further valorised.

Professionalism and skills at the service of the community.

Naturally, the Municipality of Brindisi will decide the most appropriate methods of collaboration, which among other things, already on other occasions and contexts, has also seen a synergy between the same associations and the Fire Brigade.

Di Giulio Park, Cillarese Park, Tommaseo Park, Maniglio Park, Cesare Braico Park, Punta del Serrone and Sbitri Park represent a heritage of the city of Brindisi and of the territory to be safeguarded, without ifs or buts.
